Why Isn't My Business Showing In The Google Map?
Search your trade in Airlie Beach and three businesses come up on a map. If you're not one of them, here's why that usually happens.
The short answerUsually it's one of a handful of things: no profile or an unverified one, the wrong category, details that don't match across the internet, not enough reviews, or a website that doesn't back the profile up. Some of it you can fix yourself today.
When someone searches for a plumber in Cannonvale or a tour in Airlie Beach, Google shows a map with three businesses before anything else. That's where most people pick who to call.
If you're not there, you're invisible to a lot of customers. Here are the usual reasons.
1. Your Profile Isn't Set Up Or Verified
Your Google Business Profile is the listing that shows on the map. If you never claimed it, or never finished verifying it, Google won't show it properly. Search your business name and see what comes up.
2. The Wrong Category
Your main category tells Google what you are. Pick one that's too broad, or one that doesn't match what people search for, and you won't show for the searches that matter. It's one of the most common problems I see.
3. Your Details Don't Match
Google checks your business name, address and phone number against your website, directories and anywhere else you're listed. If one says "Pty Ltd", another has an old phone number and a third has the wrong street, Google gets less confident about who you are.
4. Not Enough Reviews
Reviews matter, both for ranking and for getting picked. A business with 40 good reviews usually beats one with 4. If you need more, here's how to get more Google reviews without it being awkward.
5. Your Website Doesn't Back It Up
Your profile links to your website, and Google reads both. If your site doesn't clearly say what you do and which towns you work in, the profile has less to stand on. That's why I build the two together.
6. You've Been Suspended Or Duplicated
Sometimes a profile gets suspended, or there are two listings for the same business fighting each other. Both stop you showing up, and both are usually fixable.
The One Thing You Can't Control
Distance. Google leans towards businesses close to the person searching. If you're in Proserpine and someone searches from Airlie Beach, you're starting behind. You can't change that, but a strong profile, good reviews and a website that clearly covers the towns you work in can make up a lot of ground.
What You Can Check Today
- Search your business name. Does your profile show, and is it verified?
- Is your main category the thing customers actually search for?
- Do your name, address and phone match on your website and profile, exactly?
- When did you last get a review? When did you last reply to one?
- Are your hours right? Wrong hours cost calls.
